Terms of Service

The rules for using GitHubFolder's free, browser-based folder-to-ZIP downloader — plain language, specific to how this tool actually works.

Last updated: July 9, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of GitHubFolder (the "Service"), a free tool that downloads a single folder from a public GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket repository as a ZIP file, built entirely in your browser. By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

The Service Is Provided "As Is"

GitHubFolder is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available," with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. We don't guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the file listings and ZIPs it produces will always be complete or perfectly accurate — for example, very large repositories may have deeply nested files that don't appear in the preview. Use the Service at your own risk.

Your Responsibility for Downloaded Content

GitHubFolder only fetches files that are already publicly hosted on GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket — we don't host or control that content. You are solely responsible for having the right to download, use, modify, or redistribute any content you retrieve through the Service, and for respecting the license terms of the specific repository you're accessing (for example, an MIT, GPL, or "all rights reserved" repo). GitHubFolder does not grant you any rights to third-party repository content beyond what the repository owner has already made available.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Violate GitHub's, GitLab's, or Bitbucket's own terms of service or acceptable use policies while accessing their content through this tool.
  • Abuse, overload, scrape at scale, or otherwise attempt to circumvent the rate limits of our server-side proxy (github-proxy.php) or the token pool it uses.
  • Use automated means to send an excessive volume of requests intended to degrade the Service for other users.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our servers, proxy infrastructure, or any non-public part of the Service.

No Guarantee of Uptime or Accuracy

Because GitHubFolder depends on third-party APIs (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket) that we don't control, we can't guarantee the Service will always be available or that file listings will always reflect the exact current state of a repository. Rate limits, outages, or changes to those APIs may affect the Service without notice.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, GitHubFolder and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including but not limited to data loss, missing files in a downloaded ZIP, or reliance on inaccurate folder listings. Your use of the Service is at your own discretion and risk.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time as the Service evolves. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
